Overview of the Nissan Skyline 25GT-X
This is a 1999 Nissan Skyline 25GT-X, chassis GF-ER34, offered at USS HAA Kobe as lot 37077 on 10 October 2026. It is a four door saloon in black (factory colour code GV1) with a 2,500 cc straight six, automatic transmission, rear drive layout shown as 2WD and right hand drive. First registration is March 1999 (Heisei 11). The odometer reads 85,623 km, approximately 53,204 miles. The auction grade is 4 with interior grade B.
The ER34 is the last of the classic rear drive Skyline saloons and coupes before the badge moved to a new platform. The 25GT-X sits below the turbocharged cars, which makes it a quieter, more affordable way into the model. This one has the paperwork side covered, with the new car service book and warranty booklet present, a spare key, and genuine wheels with winter tyres loaded inside. The inspector also records a full exterior repaint, rust underneath and a replaced boot lid, so it needs to be bought with open eyes.
The Drive Review
The 25GT-X is the relaxed ER34. The sheet does not state an engine code, but this grade is generally understood to use the naturally aspirated RB25DE, a 2.5 litre inline six. It is a smooth, free revving engine with the soft, even delivery that straight sixes are known for, and a more refined sound than the turbo cars. Power goes to the rear wheels through a four speed automatic, shown in the instrument cluster with P, R, N, D, 3 and 2 positions.
Expect a long wheelbase saloon that rides well, steers with a light, communicative feel and rewards a smooth driver. It will not match a GT-R or a turbo Skyline for speed, but it has the same rear drive balance, a proper chassis and a lighter, simpler feel than a modern saloon. There is no stability control nanny to speak of and no touchscreen, just gauges, pedals and a wheel. That is exactly why enthusiasts like these cars, and why a cleaner automatic is a sensible base for a relaxed cruiser or a project.

The photographs show a few additions. The car sits on aftermarket 18 inch alloy wheels, listed on the sheet as a sales point, and has a rear boot spoiler. Inside there is a Momo steering wheel with red stitching, drilled alloy pedal covers and an aftermarket head unit. The seats are patterned cloth with dark bolsters. Whether the spoiler, steering wheel, pedals and stereo are factory or dealer fitted is not confirmed on the sheet.
Japanese Auction Report Translation
The sheet notes that the car was bought in directly from a private owner. The sales points are aftermarket 18 inch alloy wheels, an ETC toll card unit and xenon headlights. Under points to note, the spare key is present, and the genuine 16 inch alloy wheels (centre caps missing) with studless winter tyres are loaded inside the car.
The inspector's report reads as follows. The right electric folding mirror is faulty. The steering wheel is scuffed. The seat edges are scuffed. There are small scratches and small dents. There is rust on the underside. The whole exterior has been repainted, with repair waves. The inspector does not record any engine noise, transmission fault, oil or coolant leak, warning light or air conditioning fault. Service history is supported by the new car service book with warranty booklet, which is present. Owner manuals are not confirmed on the sheet.
Damage Diagram and Body Condition
The diagram shows five A1 marks, each a small scratch. They are on the front bumper, the right front door, the right rear door, the rear bumper and the left side. The left side line ends near the sill, so whether it is the sill or the doors is not certain. One XX mark sits on the boot lid, meaning a replaced panel. There are no dent, rust or crack marks on the diagram itself, although the inspector separately records small dents and underside rust.
The repaint matters most. Whole exterior repainted with repair waves means the paint is not original and some panels may show slight surface waviness. Together with the replaced boot lid, that points to past bodywork, though the sheet gives no cause. In the photographs the black paint looks glossy and even under the garage lights, with the orange side stripe visible along the sills. Overall this is a usable enthusiast car with a cosmetic history, not a collector grade original, and a close look at the underside is advisable.
Interior Condition
The interior is graded B, which is a good, used standard. The inspector notes scuffing to the steering wheel and the seat edges. The photographs show protective plastic on the seats and a floor mat in place, so wear is hard to judge fully. The dash top looks intact in the photographs, and the cluster is clear. The odometer reads 85623 in the photograph, matching the sheet. Smoke, odour and headlining condition are not mentioned on the sheet. The cluster shows a door and seatbelt style warning symbol lit in the photograph, which is likely just the doors open or ignition state while the car is being photographed, and is not noted by the inspector.
Japanese Auction Grades
Grade 4 is a good score, meaning above average with some wear or repair, and grade 5 is the best normal grade. Interior grade B is average to good. Here, the exterior grade of 4 sits alongside a note of full repaint, so read the diagram as well as the number.
Model History
The ER34 Skyline arrived in 1998 as the tenth generation, and was built until 2001. It was offered as a four door saloon alongside the better known two door coupe, with inline six engines and rear drive. The saloon range included naturally aspirated and turbocharged versions and a choice of manual or automatic gearboxes. Styling was sharper than the previous R33, and the platform was stiffer. The 25GT-X automatic was aimed at comfortable daily use rather than track work, which is why so many were bought by ordinary owners and ended up with careful single use histories like this one.
Why This Model Has Become Collectible
Skyline values have been pulled up by the GT-R, but the whole ER34 family has benefited. These are Japanese domestic market cars with a clear link to Nissan's performance heritage, the RB inline six engine reputation, and a purely mechanical driving feel. Clean, unmodified saloons are getting harder to find in Japan, as many have been modified, exported or scrapped. Collectability does not mean a rising price, so treat this as a car to enjoy rather than a guaranteed investment. The 25GT-X automatic is the least sought after ER34, which is why it is affordable, and why a car with books, a spare key and sensible history stands out.
What To Look For When Buying This Model
Start underneath. The inspector records underside rust, and on Skylines the sills, jacking points, rear arches, subframe mounts and suspension pick up points deserve a careful look. Ask for underside photographs in the inspection, and budget for rust treatment. The repaint and replaced boot lid mean it is worth checking panel gaps, paint thickness and overspray.
On the mechanical side, RB engines are durable but a belt driven timing system needs regular service, so ask for evidence of the last belt change. Look for oil seepage from cam covers and the rear main area, and check coolant hoses. The automatic gearbox should shift cleanly, so check for slipping, flare or harsh engagement on the first drive. Check the electric folding right mirror, which the inspector has marked as faulty. The two sets of wheels are a nice extra, with the genuine 16 inch set missing its centre caps.
Why Import This Car From Japan
Japanese auctions give access to cars that were serviced and kept in Japan, with an independent inspection sheet that shows faults openly. For a car like this, buying from source means you see grade, paint history and mileage evidence before you commit.

Auction Caution
Auction cars are inspected before sale but remain used vehicles. An auction sheet is an independent condition guide, not a mechanical warranty. An older performance car may need servicing, maintenance or refurbishment after purchase. On this car, please remember the inspector's warnings: underside rust, a full exterior repaint with repair waves, a replaced boot lid, a faulty right electric folding mirror, scuffed steering wheel and seat edges, and small scratches and dents. All bids must be submitted before 9PM UK time the evening before auction.
