The Mitsubishi Lancer CP9A is the Lancer Evolution family's chassis code, and cars wearing this code are of interest to Mitsubishi enthusiasts who want a Japanese market Lancer with a manual gearbox. This one has a 2,000 cc engine and a manual gearbox. The car is eligible for import to the USA under the 25 year rule, and Autoselecta can buy it at auction and arrange shipping to the UK or worldwide.
Grade 4 at auction means a good car for its age, with some marks expected. The interior grade is C, which points to visible wear inside. Read the translated auction sheet on this page for the detail before you decide.

Autoselecta auction report
Overview of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI Tommi Makinen Edition
This is a Mitsubishi Lancer GSR Evolution VI Tommi Makinen Edition in the Special Colour Edition grade, chassis code GF-CP9A, first registered in March 2000 according to the sheet (the era is not written, so Heisei 12 is the reading). It is a four door saloon with the turbocharged 2.0 litre four wheel drive layout, a five speed manual gearbox and red paint, factory colour code R71. USS Nagoya & Hokuriku will offer it as lot 3156 on 9 October 2026, graded 4 overall with interior grade C.
The odometer on the sheet reads 140,066, which is approximately 87,033 miles if the figure is in kilometres. The sheet prints both unit labels without marking either, so we rely on the auction feed, which lists the car in kilometres. For a Tommi Makinen Edition that is a car that has been used, not stored, and the sheet describes it that way. It carries a roll bar, a boost gauge, an aftermarket exhaust and suspension, and it has the marks you would expect from twenty five years of enthusiast use.
The Drive Review
The Evolution VI is the Lancer at its most developed before the bigger, heavier Evolution VII arrived. The 4G63 engine is a cast iron 2.0 litre turbocharged four cylinder, and in Japanese specification it was rated at the industry agreed 280 PS. In practice it is a strong, torquey engine that pulls hard from the middle of the rev range, with a distinct surge as the turbo comes on boost. The Tommi Makinen Edition added a titanium aluminide turbine wheel for quicker response, a quicker steering rack and a slightly lower ride height than the standard Evolution VI.
The five speed manual is a short, mechanical shift with a firm gate, and the clutch has real weight. Power goes to all four wheels through a system with a front limited slip differential and Mitsubishi's active yaw control at the rear, which shifts torque side to side to help the car rotate and hold its line. The steering is direct and full of feedback, and the car feels compact and keen to change direction. It is noisy and mechanical by modern standards, with no stability aids to hide behind, and that is exactly why people want one.
This car adds an aftermarket silencer and air cleaner, aftermarket suspension, intercooler piping and a suction pipe, so it will drive and sound differently from a factory fresh example. How those parts have been set up is not recorded on the sheet.

Factory Features and Equipment
The sheet marks power steering, power windows, an airbag and automatic air conditioning. It lists genuine Recaro seats as a sales point, and the photographs show red and black seats with a dotted red fabric and black suede style bolsters, red door card inserts, a Momo steering wheel, red dashboard panels and a gear lever with a metal knob. The Enkei alloy wheels visible in the photographs are silver six spoke wheels with red brake calipers behind them. The sheet lists an aftermarket silencer, air cleaner, suspension, intercooler piping and a suction pipe as modifications.
Japanese Auction Report Translation
The inspector's report was translated and checked by Autoselecta. The first line notes holes in the trim, although the middle word is not readable with confidence. The second line says the door trim is lifting, with the end of the line unreadable. The third line says the underside has rust, scratches and dents. The fourth says the wheels are scratched and fitted with studless winter tyres. The fifth records small scratches and small dents, with the last item (P ミミ) not readable with confidence.
The sales points are genuine Recaro seats, an aftermarket silencer and air cleaner, Enkei alloy wheels with aftermarket suspension, and intercooler piping with a suction pipe. The points to note are the roll bar and boost gauge. A note about a polishing service special course, completed on 27 May of year 7 with no era written, is also on the sheet, though its exact name is unclear. The inspection expiry is blank. The service record book is not marked either way, so service history is not confirmed. The spare wheel box is not marked, and keys, manuals and a spare key are not mentioned.
Damage Diagram and Body Condition
At the front, a note at the top edge of the diagram reads as a scuff or scratch with an A mark, but is not certain. The bonnet has U2, a dent of medium size. The windscreen has stone chips. The roof has U2, a medium dent, and the boot lid has U2, another medium dent.
On the right side, the front wing has AU1, a small scratch with touch up, and the front door has U1, a small dent. The rear door has U1, a small dent, and the rear quarter panel has AU1, a small scratch with touch up. On the left side, W2 across the doors marks a repair mark or panel wave of medium severity. The left rear quarter panel has A3, a large scratch, and U1, a small dent. At the rear, the bumper has AU1, a small scratch with touch up, and a further A1 small scratch marked below the diagram at the rear bumper area. Some of these codes were written in a way that makes the reading less certain.
Overall this is usable enthusiast condition, not collector grade. The paint looks bright in the photographs, but the roof, bonnet and boot lid dents, the left side repair mark and the underside rust deserve a careful look before bidding.
Interior Condition
The interior is grade C. The inspector notes holes in the trim and door trim lifting. The photographs show the front seats under protective plastic, the Momo wheel, a small gauge at the top corner of the dashboard and red facings on the dash and door cards. The rear bench looks clean in the photograph, with no obvious damage visible. Smell, headlining and carpet condition are not confirmed on the sheet.
Japanese Auction Grades
Grade 4 is a good condition car with limited marks, and interior grade C means noticeable wear or damage inside. The exterior grade of 4 matches the overall grade here. Grades guide condition; they are not a mechanical guarantee.
The Lancer Evolution began as a homologation special for the World Rally Championship, putting the Galant VR4 engine and drivetrain into the smaller Lancer. The Evolution VI of 1999 was the sixth step, with improved cooling and aerodynamics. Tommi Makinen won the drivers' title four times in a row from 1996 to 1999 in Mitsubishi rally cars, and the Tommi Makinen Edition, introduced in December 1999, was built to celebrate that. It carried the tweaks mentioned above and special trim, and the Ralliart badge shows the car's competition heritage.
Why This Model Has Become Collectible
The Evolution VI Tommi Makinen Edition is the high point for many Mitsubishi fans. It was built for Japan, it comes from the rallying era the brand is best remembered for, and it pairs a manual gearbox with a hand built feeling turbo engine and a mechanical four wheel drive system. Good unmodified cars have become hard to find, because many were driven hard, modified or tracked. Demand now comes from Japan, Europe, Australia and North America, and the car is eligible for the United States under the 25 year rule. This one is modified and has marked panels, which is reflected in the guide range, but it is still a real Tommi Makinen Edition. We do not predict future values.
What To Look For When Buying This Model
The 4G63 is a tough engine, but it should have a recorded timing belt service and a healthy oil pressure. Listen for turbo bearing noise and check for boost leaks, which matter more on a car with modified intake and intercooler piping like this one. The five speed gearbox can have tired synchromesh, and the clutch and rear differential should be checked, as should the active yaw control system. Rust is the Evolution's main enemy, particularly on the sills, rear arches and underside, and this sheet records underside rust, scratches and dents, so ask for underside photographs. The left side repair mark is also worth examining. Check the aftermarket suspension setup, since fitted dampers and springs affect ride and alignment, and the studless tyres will need replacing with summer tyres for road use.

Auction Caution
Auction cars are inspected before sale but are still used vehicles. The auction sheet is an independent condition guide, not a mechanical warranty. A car of this age and performance may need servicing, maintenance or refurbishment after purchase. Please note the inspector's warnings on this car: trim holes, door trim lifting, rust, scratches and dents underneath, scratched wheels, medium dents on the bonnet, roof and boot lid, a medium repair mark on the left side, and the service book, spare key and manuals not being confirmed on the sheet.
