Overview of the Toyota Land Cruiser 60 VX
This is a May 1989 Toyota Land Cruiser 60 VX, chassis E-FJ62G, offered at USS Yokohama as lot 20282 on 13 October 2026. It is a five door wagon with the 4,000 cc petrol engine, a floor automatic gearbox and four wheel drive, finished in grey with colour code 155. The sheet records 77,705 km, approximately 48,284 miles, and the car is graded 4.5 with an interior grade of B.
The sales points on the sheet read like a checklist for a good one: garage kept, 77,000 km range mileage, square headlight final model, high roof and sunroof. Add a genuine four wheel diff lock, navigation, digital TV and ETC, and this is a well optioned Toyota Land Cruiser 60 from the last of the square headlight cars. The inspector is honest about the age, noting worn seats, a scuffed cabin and partly painted underside rust, so read the translation below before bidding.
The Drive Review
The 60 Series is a traditional ladder frame truck with live axles at both ends, and it drives like one. Steering is slow and light on feedback, the body leans in corners, and the ride has the long, rolling quality of a leaf sprung wagon. That is the appeal. It feels solid and unhurried, with a high seating position and big glass areas that make it easy to place on narrow roads.
The 4.0 litre petrol straight six is a smooth, torquey unit that suits relaxed driving far better than hurrying. With the automatic you get easy progress rather than speed, and buyers should expect modest economy by modern standards. Power steering is marked on this sheet, which takes the effort out of parking. Off road, the four wheel diff lock declared in the notes is a genuinely useful feature, and the high roof wagon body gives plenty of load space. Against a modern SUV it is slower, noisier and less refined, but it is also simpler, easier to work on and far more characterful.

Factory Features and Equipment
The sheet marks a sunroof, power steering and power windows, and air conditioning is shown as AC. The notes declare genuine chrome wheels, a genuine four wheel diff lock, ETC, full segment digital TV and navigation. A navigation screen is visible in the dashboard in the photographs, along with a woodgrain style cup holder on the centre console and grey velour and black trim seats.
A third row seat is loaded in the car, supplied rather than fitted. Running boards, front and rear mudflaps and a rear tow fitting can be seen in the photographs. The sheet does not say whether the TV and navigation work, so treat their operation as not confirmed.
Japanese Auction Report Translation
The sheet has been translated and checked by Autoselecta. The inspector reports: studless winter tyres fitted; cabin scuffed and dirty; seats worn and sagging; underside rust, partly painted; exterior repair paint unevenness and light scratches.
The points to note declare genuine chrome wheels, the third row seat loaded in the car, a genuine four wheel diff lock and ETC, and full segment TV with navigation. The sales points list the warranty booklet, owner's manual, service record book and spare key, and the notes say these are sent separately after the sale. The new car service book with warranty booklet is circled as present. So the books and spare key exist but are not with the car at auction. The colour change box shows only an arrow with no new colour, the steering box is blank, and the bottom of the sheet is cut off, so the first choice line and member number could not be read in full. The sheet carries the heading Domestic Regular Corner. No engine, gearbox, oil leak or warning light comments are written, but nothing about mechanical running is confirmed either.
Damage Diagram and Body Condition
The diagram shows eight marks. A1 on the front bumper is a small scratch. The front windscreen carries a stone chip mark with a scratch. The left front door has AU1, a small scratch that has been touched up. The left rear door has U1, a small dent. The right rear door has A1, a small scratch. The right rear quarter panel has W2, a repair mark or panel wave of medium severity, which agrees with the inspector's note of uneven repair paint. The rear tailgate area has A2, a medium scratch, and the rear bumper has A1, a small scratch. A spare tyre is drawn on the diagram with no code.
In plain terms, this is mostly light cosmetic wear with one repaired area at the right rear. The photographs show a clean grey body with intact trim, though they cannot show the underside. Overall this is a usable enthusiast condition truck, tidy for its age, with the underside rust the main item to inspect on arrival.
Interior Condition
The interior grade is B. The inspector notes a scuffed, dirty cabin and worn, sagging seats. The photographs show grey velour seats with black side trim, grey door cards with a diamond pattern, grey carpet and a grey dashboard with the original round gauge cluster. The rear bench appears in fair order in the images, though the photographs cannot show the wear the inspector describes. Expect a deep clean and possibly seat attention.
Japanese Auction Grades
Grade 4.5 sits between very good and excellent for a car of this age and means the inspector found only light cosmetic issues. The interior grade B reflects the wear noted above. Both grades are a condition guide, not a mechanical warranty.
Model History
The Land Cruiser 60 Series was built from 1980 to 1990 as the wagon successor to the 55 Series, offering far more comfort and refinement while keeping the tough chassis. Petrol and diesel engines were offered depending on market, and the FJ62G carried the 4.0 litre petrol six. The final years brought the square headlight face seen here, and Toyota sold the wagon in several trims with the VX among the better equipped. The 70 Series and then the 80 Series followed.
Why This Model Has Become Collectible
The 60 Series is a simple, strong, boxy Land Cruiser that people trust and recognise. Demand has grown as clean examples have become scarcer, since many were used hard or lost to rust. A right hand drive Japanese market wagon with fewer than 78,000 km, a garage kept note and a service history is unusual. A May 1989 car is over 25 years old, which opens the United States market. We make no promise about future values and this is not an investment.
What To Look For When Buying This Model
Rust is the first concern on any 60 Series. Check the chassis rails, floor, sills, rear arches and tailgate area, and use the sheet's note of partly painted underside rust as your starting point. The W2 mark on the right rear quarter is worth inspecting for the quality of the repair. Check the automatic gearbox for smooth shifts, and look for oil weeping from the engine and axles. Leaf springs, bushes and steering box play are common wear items, and the age of the carburettor or injection system and the cooling system deserve a service. Confirm the four wheel diff lock engages and that the navigation and TV work, as this is not confirmed. Fit new tyres suited to your conditions, as the winter tyres noted are a stopgap.
Why Import This Car From Japan
Japan offers well maintained, low mileage Land Cruisers with auction sheets that record condition honestly, and rust levels are often lower than in other markets. This example has books, a spare key and a garage kept history.

Auction Caution
Auction cars are inspected before sale but remain used vehicles. The auction sheet is an independent condition guide, not a mechanical warranty. A 1989 truck may need servicing, maintenance or refurbishment after purchase. Please note the inspector's warnings: underside rust partly painted, worn and sagging seats, a scuffed and dirty cabin, uneven exterior repair paint, light scratches, the W2 mark on the right rear quarter, and the books and spare key sent separately after the sale.
