Autoselecta auction report
Overview of the Ferrari 458 Speciale
This is a June 2015 Ferrari 458 Speciale, chassis code ABA-F142VS, offered at USS Tokyo on 22 October 2026 as lot 65056 in the Prestige car corner. It is a left hand drive dealer import finished in its original Rosso Mugello red (colour code 325), with a Blu NART livery stripe and matte gold wheels. The odometer reads 10,414 km, approximately 6,471 miles. The auction grade is 4.5 and the interior grade is B.
The sheet records one owner, bought in directly from the private owner, and a new car service book with warranty booklet marked present. Dealer service records are listed for most years from 2015 onwards. Add a long list of carbon options and this is a low mileage, well documented example of the most focused road going Ferrari V8 of its era. The listing gives the grade as base grade, and that is how the sheet describes it.
The Drive Review
The 458 Speciale is the final and sharpest version of the mid mounted, naturally aspirated 4.5 litre V8 Ferrari. The engine is a development of the 458 Italia unit and makes 605 PS, revving to a 9,000 rpm limit. The tachometer in photograph 6 shows an orange zone from 9 to 10, which tells you how this engine wants to be used. The sound is hard edged and ever rising, and nothing turbocharged can imitate it.
The gearbox is a seven speed dual clutch automatic with carbon paddles behind the wheel. Photograph 7 shows the tunnel buttons for Reverse, Auto and Launch, and the cluster in photograph 6 is displaying RACE, the manettino setting on the steering wheel. Shifts are fast and violent in the right mode, and docile enough in Auto for a town run.
The Speciale is where Ferrari pushed hardest on steering and chassis response. The steering is quick and light, the front end bites hard, and the car carries its speed with a precision that makes a standard 458 feel soft. It introduced Side Slip Angle Control, which lets a skilled driver slide the car with a safety net. Active aerodynamics, including the front flap noted on the sheet, add downforce without the visual noise of a wing. Compared with a modern turbocharged supercar, there is less torque low down, more drama near the limiter, and a stronger sense of connection.

Factory Features and Equipment
The sheet marks genuine alloy wheels, power steering, power windows, navigation, airbags and air conditioning. The sales points and notes add a long equipment list. These are an NART livery stripe in Blu NART, Rosso Mugello paint, gold brake callipers, a carbon front spoiler and aero flap, carbon engine compartment shields, a carbon diffuser, carbon side sill fins and titanium tailpipe tips. The notes list 20 inch forged wheels in matte gold with the HELE system, an embroidered Cavallino emblem on the headrests, a rear parking camera and rear parking sensors, electrochromic exterior and interior mirrors, and an audio navigation system with Bluetooth.
The photographs confirm much of this: gold five spoke wheels with gold callipers and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres, a carbon fibre door panel with a fabric pull strap, carbon trim around the air vents, a carbon bridged tunnel and carbon intake plenums under the engine cover. A Ferrari sill plate and a bare, diamond pattern floor are also visible. Whether the titanium tips, carbon wheels or other options match the factory build sheet is not confirmed beyond what the auction sheet records.
Japanese Auction Report Translation
The inspector's report lists six points. Switches sticky (スイッチベタツキ). Steering wheel scratched (ハンドルキズ). Dashboard panel partly lifting (ダッシュ板一部ウキ). Wheels scratched (ホイールキズ). Protection film applied (プロテクションフィルム張り). Small scratches and small dents (小キズ小凹).
The record book note lists dealer service records for Heisei 27, 28, 29, 30 and Reiwa 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8, which is 2015 to 2024 and 2026. Reiwa 7 (2025) is skipped, so ask about that gap. The new car service book with warranty booklet is marked present. The manual, warranty booklet, spare key and key card are marked 後送, meaning they will be sent separately after the sale. They are not with the car at auction, so check with the auction house before bidding. The spare tyre symbol on the diagram has nothing marked. No engine, gearbox, oil leak, warning light or underbody comments appear on the sheet.
Damage Diagram and Body Condition
The diagram has four marks. A(多) on the left side at the door area means numerous small scratches. U1 on the left side at the door area is a small dent. A(多) on the right side at the door area is again numerous small scratches. スリA below the rear bumper means scuffing with scratches. The lead lines point to the door and sill area on each side, but the exact panel is not clear.
There are no repaint, replaced panel, rust or corrosion marks. Taken with the protection film noted by the inspector, this is the picture of a carefully used car with light door side marks and a scuffed rear lower edge. The exterior grade is 4.5. The photographs show clean, glossy red paintwork, intact stripes and no obvious problems. The sheet does not say where the protection film has been applied. Overall this is a usable collector grade car, with cosmetic marks that suit its use rather than neglect.
Interior Condition
The interior grade is B. The inspector notes sticky switches, a scratched steering wheel and a dashboard panel that is partly lifting. Sticky switches are a known trait of soft touch coatings on cars of this age. The photographs show black Alcantara on the dash with red stitching, the 458 Speciale script on the passenger side, blue and black racing style seats, carbon trim and no visible tears. The odometer matches the sheet at 10,414 km. Smoke, odour and headlining condition are not mentioned on the sheet.
Japanese Auction Grades
Japanese auction grades run from 1 to 5, with 4.5 sitting near the top for a used car, and interior grades run from A to D. This car's 4.5 and interior B indicate very good overall condition with some cosmetic wear. The sheet is an independent condition guide, not a warranty.
Ferrari revealed the 458 Speciale at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show as the last and most extreme of its mid engined, naturally aspirated V8 line. The 458 Italia arrived in 2009 as the replacement for the F430. The Speciale gained power, lost weight, and received more aggressive aerodynamics, lighter materials and tighter chassis tuning. Its Ferrari type code is F142VS in Japanese registration form, shown here as ABA-F142VS. It was soon followed by the turbocharged 488 GTB, which makes this car the end of an era.
Why This Model Has Become Collectible
The Ferrari 458 Speciale is widely regarded as the high point of the naturally aspirated V8 Ferrari. It was a limited production special series, and the successor engines are turbocharged, which has helped it keep a following among collectors. Its dual clutch gearbox is not a manual, but the driving experience is vivid and analogue in feel.
This example adds one owner, dealer records and a very low mileage for a car of its age. The NART stripe and gold wheels give it an unusual, period correct look. Importing a clean left hand drive car from Japan has become harder as good examples are held by collectors. No one can guarantee future values, and this should be viewed as a car to drive and enjoy.
What To Look For When Buying This Model
On the F142 family, check that the dual clutch gearbox shifts cleanly at low speed and in launch use, and ask for service records on its clutch and hydraulics. Sticky switch coatings and lifting dash trim are common as the surfaces age, which matches this car's notes. Check the dealer record gap for 2025 and the carbon ceramic brake discs for wear. Look at the underside of the front splitter and rear diffuser for scrapes, and at the Alcantara and seat bolsters for wear. This car's own sheet asks you to look at the steering wheel and wheel scratches, the dashboard panel, the door side scratches and the left door dent, and the rear lower scuff. Ask the auction house about the books, warranty and keys marked 後送. Check how the engine's service history was kept up with the dealer, since a Ferrari V8 of this type needs regular attention.
Why Import This Car From Japan
Japanese auctions offer cars with detailed, standardised inspection sheets and lower mileage than many markets. A one owner, dealer serviced Speciale with a grade 4.5 is the sort of car that is hard to find elsewhere.

Auction Caution
Auction cars are inspected before the sale but are still used vehicles. The auction sheet is an independent condition guide, not a mechanical warranty. A high performance Ferrari may need servicing, maintenance or refurbishment after purchase. Please note the inspector's warnings again: sticky switches, a scratched steering wheel and wheels, a dashboard panel partly lifting, small scratches and dents on both sides, a small dent on the left door, scuffing under the rear bumper, a gap in the 2025 dealer records, and the manual, warranty booklet, spare key and key card being sent separately after the sale.
