Overview of the Honda NSX Type S
This is a June 1997 Honda NSX Type S, chassis code E-NA2, finished in white (Honda colour code NH565) and offered at USS Nagoya & Hokuriku as lot 50033. It has the 3.2 litre V6 and the six speed manual gearbox, in right hand drive Japanese market form. The sheet records 67,600 km, approximately 42,005 miles, and the car is graded 3 overall with an interior grade of C.
The Type S is the NSX that enthusiasts look for when they want the sharper, manual only version of Honda's mid engined icon. This car carries genuine Type R wheels, the factory service book with warranty booklet, and uprated suspension. It also comes with a clear caution: the sheet shows replaced rear fenders, a likely replaced pair of front wings, and uneven same colour paint. It will suit a buyer who reads the sheet carefully and wants a usable Honda NSX Type S rather than a showroom piece.
The Drive Review
The NSX was built around an all aluminium monocoque, with the engine mounted behind the driver and driving the rear wheels. The result is a car that feels light and precise next to modern sports cars. Steering is unassisted in feel and rich in feedback, the seating position is low with a fighter cockpit view, and the narrow pillars give a view out that few current cars match.
The 3.2 litre C32B V6 with VTEC is the heart of the NA2. Power is quoted at 280 PS under the Japanese manufacturers' agreement, and the engine pulls cleanly from low revs before rising to a hard, bright finish near the red zone visible on the tachometer in the photographs. The six speed manual replaced the earlier five speed in the 3.2 cars and gives a shorter, more mechanical shift. The Type S added firmer suspension tuning and lighter, more purposeful touches over the standard car, while keeping everything that made the NSX easy to live with: good visibility, a manageable width and an engine that is happy in traffic.
This car has coilovers fitted, so its ride and handling will differ from the factory setting, and an aftermarket silencer, which will change the exhaust note. Both are recorded on the sheet. The make and set up of either are not stated, so buyers should expect to review and perhaps return them to a preferred setting.
Auction Details
The car is lot 50033 at USS Nagoya & Hokuriku, listed in the Prime Corner section of the sale. The Japanese auction date is 23 October 2026. The auction start price is ¥17,700,000. Similar cars sold at Japanese auctions, which are auction results and not Autoselecta sales, have reached between £39,205 and £59,859, typically about £51,092. That range covers other versions and conditions, so it is only a rough backdrop for a Type S with this sheet. Autoselecta has not set a guide bidding range for this car.
The minimum bid and the full landed cost are worked out live in the price panel on this page, so please refer to it for the current figures. All bids must be submitted before 9PM UK time the evening before auction.

Factory Features and Equipment
The sheet marks power steering, power windows, leather and an airbag, and records automatic air conditioning. Its sales points list the 3.2 litre Type S, the genuine six speed, genuine Type R 16 inch front and 17 inch rear alloy wheels, and the genuine Type S half leather power seats. The new car service book with warranty booklet is marked as present.
The photographs show a leather rimmed steering wheel with a Honda centre, red stitching on the dash hood, a manual gear lever, a factory style audio head unit and red lit instruments. An aftermarket digital speed and rev display sits on the instrument hood. Navigation, ETC, a spare key, owner manuals and a spare wheel are not confirmed on the sheet, and the spare tyre circle on the diagram is unmarked.
Japanese Auction Report Translation
The inspector's report is translated and checked by Autoselecta, and it reads as follows. The left rear fender stay is distorted. The left rear inner panel end is distorted, although the exact meaning of the wording is not certain, as the term can mean instrument panel or an inner panel. The left and right rear fenders are replaced (XX). The seats are faded and scuffed. The right sill trim is partly missing. The headliner is lifting. There are marks where a dash panel stay was removed. The exterior has been repainted in the same colour with uneven paint. There are small scratches.
The points to note say coilover suspension is fitted and an aftermarket silencer is fitted. The sheet gives no engine, gearbox, clutch, air conditioning or electrical faults, and no warning lights, but it also gives no mechanical commentary, so the mechanical condition is not confirmed. There is a stray line about dimensions of 443 cm length, 184 cm width and 116 cm height, which appears to be transport information and not a vehicle note.
Damage Diagram and Body Condition
The diagram marks six areas. The front bumper shows a scuff marked A, meaning a surface scratch, and the photographs show a front lip beneath the bumper that buyers should inspect for contact marks. At the front centre, at the rear of the bonnet or the base of the windscreen, there is a mark that appears to read as stone chips, though the exact panel is uncertain. Both front wings carry XX, meaning replaced panels. Both rear quarters also carry XX, meaning replaced panels.
The inspector's written report names only the rear fenders as replaced, so the front wing markings should be confirmed with the auction. Together with the distorted left rear fender stay and the uneven same colour repaint, this points to repair work at several corners. On an aluminium bodied car that matters, because repair quality and panel fit are what decide value. Overall this is a usable enthusiast car with visible history, not a collector grade original. The photographs show the white paint looking clean and glossy under auction lighting, but the sheet is the better guide.
Interior Condition
The interior is graded C, which reflects visible wear. The sheet notes faded and scuffed seats, part of the right sill trim missing, a lifting headliner, and marks where a dash panel stay was removed. The photographs show dark seat centres with leather bolsters, a tidy dash and a clean steering wheel, although the driver's seat looks creased and worn. The mileage display in the instrument photograph agrees closely with the sheet. The interior is serviceable, but a retrim of the seats and headliner should be budgeted for by a buyer who wants it fresh.
Japanese Auction Grades
A grade 3 is a middle score that allows for repairs, repainting or moderate cosmetic flaws, and here it reflects the replaced panels and uneven paint. Interior grade C indicates noticeable wear and tear. The exterior grade is also given as 3 in the data.
Model History
The NSX launched in 1990 as Honda's answer to European mid engined exotics, with an aluminium monocoque and a 3.0 litre V6 VTEC engine, and Ayrton Senna was involved in its chassis development. In 1997 the NA2 brought the 3.2 litre engine and a six speed manual, and the Type S and Type S Zero arrived as lighter, sportier models. Pop up headlights gave way to fixed units only in 2002, so this 1997 car has the original look.
Why This Model Has Become Collectible
The NSX was built in small numbers, was hand assembled in Tochigi, and has a manual gearbox, a naturally aspirated VTEC engine and a pure analogue feel. Many were crashed or modified, so good survivors are scarce. Demand worldwide has grown steadily, and this car is eligible for the USA, since it is over 25 years old. That does not guarantee future values, and the car should not be treated as an investment. A Type S with genuine Type R wheels and its service book has real appeal, but the repaired panels will weigh on buyers' minds.
What To Look For When Buying This Model
Start with the bodywork. The NSX aluminium shell needs a specialist to repair correctly, so check gaps, paint thickness and the structure behind the rear fenders and quarters, especially with the distorted left rear stay noted here. Have the front wings checked against the diagram. Look at the underside for signs of corrosion where steel and aluminium meet.
On the mechanical side, ask for evidence of timing belt and water pump service, as the C32B is an interference style engine that depends on it. Check clutch feel, gearbox synchros and any VTEC engagement problems. Inspect the coilovers for leaks and the aftermarket silencer for fit. Look at the dash and headliner too, because lifting trim is a known ageing issue on these cars.
Why Import This Car From Japan
Japan keeps its NSX models well documented, with service books and auction inspections that lay out condition frankly, and examples are often lower mileage than those found elsewhere. A right hand drive Type S from Nagoya gives a buyer access to a car that is increasingly hard to source at home.
USA Import Information
This car is 25 years or older and so is eligible for import to the United States. Autoselecta can arrange shipment from Japan to the USA. Please contact Autoselecta with your city or ZIP code before bidding, so that a delivered quotation can be prepared. Autoselecta can calculate the expected purchase price, Japan costs, shipping, customs related costs and delivery requirements. Additional charges may apply and are not zero.
Ultimate Guide For Japanese Imports
The usual route is to choose a car, set a maximum bid, win at auction, then arrange export, shipping and registration in your own country. Check your national import, emissions and age rules before you bid, as they differ widely between countries.

Auction Caution
Auction cars are inspected before the sale but remain used vehicles. An auction sheet is an independent condition guide and not a mechanical warranty. A 1997 performance car may need servicing, maintenance or refurbishment after purchase. Please note the key inspector warnings once more: the rear fenders are replaced, the front wings are marked as replaced on the diagram, the left rear stay is distorted, the paint is repainted in the same colour and uneven, the seats are faded and scuffed, the headliner is lifting, and part of the right sill trim is missing.
